Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care

The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care degree is a . The pre-professional phase of the program requires the completion of 42 semester credit hours related to the Texas Core Curriculum and an 18-semester-credit-hours program prerequisite course prior to admission. The pre-professional phase requirements must be completed at any accredited college or university. The professional phase of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care consists of 65 credit hours of upper-division courses taken at 黑料社区 and includes respiratory care coursework and clinical practice.

Our professional phase is approximately 22 months long and dedicated to clinical and academic excellence. Our students receive approximately 1,000 hours of in-hospital clinical experience. The second half of the program includes supervised clinical rotations that occur primarily at sites throughout Texas but also in other states. You must be prepared to be away from San Antonio for some time and to assume the costs of these rotations.

We offer graduates the opportunity to gain the foundation needed to assume professional leadership roles in clinical practice and clinical specialty areas.

The goals of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care program are:

  • To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).
  • To prepare leaders for the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research, and advanced clinical practice (which may include an area of clinical specialization).
